After you have your Baby can you pump your breast milk?

I heared that you should not pump your milk until 4 weeks after you have you baby.

They tell you not to pump so your baby can establish your supply, that way you aren’t over/under producing and causing problems for yourself until your body readjusts. It’s usually a good idea to wait 4-6 weeks when breastfeeding is well established and your milk supply is steady. Pumping earlier can result in engorgement, this isn’t always true, but it happens. If you need to return to work and need to establish a store for your babysitter then you can start pumping now, do it halfway between feedings. You may not get anything right away, but it’ll signal your body to produce milk at that time and you’ll eventually be able to pull a few ounces. If you just want some frozen just in case and are planning on exclusively nursing you can feed off of just one side at night and pump the other in the morning…again, after 4-6 weeks.
